Installing the Chrome Extension
Download and set up the Outlier Chrome extension for YouTube research
The Outlier Chrome extension lets you discover outlier videos, bookmark research, and generate AI ideas—all without leaving YouTube.
Installation Steps#

Visit the Chrome Web Store
- Go to the Outlier extension page (or search "Outlier YouTube")

Click "Add to Chrome"
- A popup will explain the permissions needed
- Click "Add extension" to confirm

Pin the extension (recommended)
- Click the puzzle piece icon in your Chrome toolbar
- Find Outlier and click the pin icon
- The Outlier icon will now always be visible
Logging In#
After installation:
- Click the Outlier extension icon
- Click "Sign In"
- Enter your email and password
- You're connected to your Outlier account
Don't have an account? Click "Sign Up" to create a free account.
Extension Permissions#
The extension requests these permissions:

| Read YouTube pages | To detect videos and show outlier scores |
| Storage | To save your bookmarks locally for offline access |
| Tabs | To know when you're on YouTube |
We never:
- Access your YouTube account
- Read your watch history
- Collect personal browsing data
First-Time Setup#
Once logged in:
- Visit any YouTube video — You'll see the outlier score if data is available
- Browse a channel page — View all videos with their outlier scores
- Click the extension icon — Access bookmarks, generate ideas, and sync data
Supported Browsers#
The extension works on:
- Google Chrome (recommended)
- Microsoft Edge (Chromium-based)
- Brave Browser
- Other Chromium-based browsers
Not supported: Firefox, Safari
Updating the Extension#
Chrome updates extensions automatically. To manually check:
- Go to
chrome://extensions - Enable "Developer mode" (top right)
- Click "Update" (top left)
