Using the Extension on YouTube

The Outlier extension transforms YouTube into a research tool. Here's how to use it effectively.

Viewing Outlier Scores#

When you visit a YouTube video or channel page, the extension displays outlier scores:

On video pages:

• The outlier score appears near the video title
• Scores above 0.3 indicate the video outperformed the channel's median
• Higher scores = stronger performance relative to the channel

On channel pages:

• Each video thumbnail shows its outlier score
• Quickly scan to find top performers
• Videos without enough data show "—"

Understanding the Score#

Scores between 0.3 and 2.0 are considered true outliers—videos worth studying.

Bookmarking Videos#

Save interesting videos for later research:

1. Quick bookmark: Click the bookmark icon on any video
2. Add to folder: Choose an existing folder or create a new one
3. Add notes: Write why you're saving this video

Bookmarks sync to your dashboard and count toward your plan's limit.

Generating AI Ideas#

Turn any video into content inspiration:

1. Click the Outlier extension icon while viewing a video
2. Click "Generate Ideas"
3. Wait 10-30 seconds for AI analysis
4. Review 3-5 personalized video ideas

Tips for better ideas:

• Generate from true outliers (score 0.5+)
• Generate from channels similar to yours
• Each generation uses 1 of your monthly AI ideas

Adding Videos to Pipeline#

Send videos directly to your production pipeline:

1. Click the extension icon on a video
2. Click "Add to Pipeline"
3. Select your workspace and channel
4. The video appears in your Pipeline as an "Idea"

This is great for saving videos that inspire future content.

The Extension Popup#

Click the extension icon to access:

• Your bookmarks — Browse saved videos
• Quick actions — Bookmark, generate ideas, add to pipeline
• Sync status — See when data was last synced
• Account info — Your plan and remaining limits
