Bookmarking and Organizing Outliers

Bookmarking outliers builds your content research library. Good organization makes this research actionable.

How to Bookmark Videos#

From the Chrome Extension#

1. Visit any YouTube video
2. Click the Outlier extension icon
3. Click "Bookmark"
4. Optionally select a folder or add notes
5. Done—the video is saved

From the Dashboard#

1. Go to Bookmarks in your dashboard
2. Click "Add Bookmark"
3. Paste a YouTube video URL
4. Add to a folder and include notes

Quick Bookmarking#

With the extension, you can bookmark without opening the popup:

• The bookmark icon appears on video pages
• One click saves with default settings

Using Folders#

Folders help you organize research by topic, format, or project.

Creating Folders#

In the extension:

1. Click "Bookmark" on any video
2. Click "New Folder"
3. Name your folder
4. Save

In the dashboard:

1. Go to Bookmarks
2. Click "New Folder"
3. Name and create

Folder Ideas#

Organize by what makes sense for your workflow:

By content type:

• Tutorials
• Reviews
• Vlogs
• Comparisons

By topic:

• Topic A
• Topic B
• Trending topics

By project:

• Next video research
• Series ideas
• Collaboration concepts

By performance:

• High outliers (1.0+)
• Solid performers (0.5-1.0)
• To analyze later

Adding Notes#

Notes capture why you saved a video and what you learned.

Good Note Examples#

❌ Bad: "Good video"

✅ Good: "Title uses curiosity gap + number. Thumbnail has high contrast face. Could adapt for my [topic] content."

✅ Good: "Unexpected angle on common topic. Hook in first 5 seconds is strong. Note the pacing—faster than typical tutorials."

When to Add Notes#

Add notes when the video is fresh in your mind:

• Right after watching
• While you can see title/thumbnail
• Before moving to the next video

Syncing Between Devices#

Bookmarks sync between the Chrome extension and dashboard:

• Extension → Dashboard: Automatic on each action
• Dashboard → Extension: Syncs when you open the extension

Use either interface—your data stays consistent.

Managing Your Bookmark Limit#

Each plan has a bookmark limit:

When You Hit the Limit#

1. Delete old bookmarks — Remove videos you've already analyzed
2. Export your notes — Copy important insights before deleting
3. Upgrade your plan — Get more capacity

Keeping Bookmarks Useful#

Periodically review and clean:

• Remove duplicates
• Delete bookmarks without notes
• Archive outdated research
• Combine similar folders

Exporting Bookmark Data#

Currently, bookmarks live in Outlier. To preserve insights:

• Add detailed notes to each bookmark
• Use the dashboard to review your library
• Consider creating a separate document for key learnings
